Hello fellow Hexers,

The past 4 weeks in Hex have had several changes, updates and announcements of things to come.

  • New Bash and Clash format announced then released
  • Iconoclash released for a week, then re-released for an undeterminate amount of time
  • Merry Melee, with several casual formats have been announced with no official dates for formats other than Iconoclash.
  • Multiple changes to champions
  • Cosmic coins and Siege sacks have been announced

Some of these changes have been well received, some others less so. Based on a poll that’s been posted on Reddit, the players’ opinion on the things to come are very split. The next couple of reports will show how the changes went.

This month’s report covers the second 28 days period since the launch of Doombringer, going from April 13th to May 10th. Most values will have one or two percentage values next to them. When that is the case, those percentages represent the change of that data point for this period compared to:

  • First value: 28 days preceding the current period (from March 16th to April 12th )
  • Second value: 28 days of equivalent age from the previous set (in this case, Dead of Winter, from December 15th to January 11th)

Limited play

In the current period, there were 2,626 (-58.5%/-38.0%) draft gauntlets, 4,290 (-65.0%/-42.1%) evo sealed gauntlets and 107 (-76.7%/-71.2%) sealed gauntlets completed.

Looking more closely into draft data, we find that 539 (-56.2%/-30.5%) draft pods fired, and 2,626 (-58.5%/-38.0%) draft gauntlets runs were completed. On average, 5.0 (+0.0%/+0.0%) runs were completed per pod.

As for the Clash, an average of 79 (-28.8%/+14.7%) players participated in the last 3 Clashes of the old format, while 154 players (131 distinct players) total participated in the new format.

Constructed play

In the observed period, 35,348 (-21.2%/-21.3%) constructed ladder matches were played, and the last 3 instances of the old format Bash had an average of 63.3 (-13.2%/-10.1%) while 119 players (99 distinct players) participated in the new format. Next month will show if this sudden jump in participation is due to the novelty factor, or if the new format really does attract more players.

An average of 71.0 (-4.1%/-5.3%) players signed up for the Arcanum Vault scheduled tournaments, and 45 (-23.7%/-37.5%) players participated in the FiveShards Weekly tournaments. Finally, the Fight Night had an average of 47.0 (-27.7%/-26.6%) players, while the Singles Night had an average of 12.0 (-29.4%/-29.4%) players signed up.

The new format, the Iconoclash (which we’ll consider to be Constructed on the sole merit that it’s not Limited), saw players complete 4480 gauntlet runs, for a total of 11,482 matches. While we definitely cannot affirm that everybody who played the Iconoclash would have played Ladder if it had not existed, it is interesting to note that the sum of matches from Ladder and Iconoclash together are higher than the number of Ladder matches from last month, so we need to consider that at least some people played fewer ladder matches in order to play the Iconoclash instead.

Meta

With the several changes that have been applied to the champions, the meta was ripe for a change. However, the data shows that it had very little effect in any format. It is worth noting that the changed happened mid-way through the observed period, so the data from the first half of the period might be skewing the results. We will have a better idea of how the meta evolved next month.
